Good Scientific Practice and Reproducible Research
Prof. Dr. Marianne SaamCourse
Description
Journals in economics and management and funding agencies increasingly require that publication- and project-related data and analyses be published. This enables verification of the results and further use of the data and program code.
In the online seminar, we show how data and program codes are prepared according to the guidelines of leading journals. We provide an overview of the requirements of the most important third-party funding bodies, various journals and professional societies in economics and management. A focus is on guidelines for quantitative empirical work.
We show how to prepare data using the statistical software STATA. However, the seminar can be attended without in-depth STATA knowledge, as the examples are transferable to other statistical software.
In order to obtain credit points for the seminar, each student has to reproduce a published paper (using STATA or another software).
The course will take place online.
Prior knowledge of applied statistics at the level of introductory econometrics or other quantitative social science is expected for reproducing a published paper.
Students who do not want to obtain credit for the course may not necessarily need prior knowledge of statistics. In this case, taking other quantitative courses afterwards is necessary for doing own empirical work.
